Buy me some peanuts and hot poutine…

The Milwaukee Journal and the Brewers announced the four finalists for the Brewers Concession Contest; fish tacos, chicken Parmesan sandwich, mixed Klement’s sausage kebab, and poutine (french fries and cheese curds topped with brown gravy). I am bummed that my entry, Sausage Race Sliders, didn’t make it, though I can now admit that I never actually tried to make them, I just came up with the idea.  It would have been 5 sliders featuring each of the sausages in patty form, except the hot dog which would have been cut in half then split lengthwise because the idea of a hot dog patty is just disgusting.  Each one would have been paired with a sausage appropriate topping:
  • Hot Dog Slider Chicago Style (celery salt, tomato, mustard, atomic green relish, sport pepper, onions, and pickle – no ketchup, of course)
  • Bratwurst with spicy mustard and kraut
  • Polish served Maxwell Street Style (sautéed onions, yellow mustard, sport peppers)
  • Italian (red and green peppers, onions, and tomato sauce)
  • Chorizo with tomatillo salsa
I also thought that my friend Nick over at DudeFoods‘ entry of mac and cheese with different Klement’s sausages would have been a great addition to the offerings.

With that being said, I think poutine needs to win.  First poutine kicks ass.  Hot fries, melted cheese curds and gravy coming together to make one of the best things you’ll ever eat.  Plus after all that Doug Melvin has done for the Brewers this off-season (Shaun Marcum and Zach Greinke!) we need something Canadian on  the menu and nothing is more Canadian than poutine.  I could also live with the mixed sausage kebabs because the idea of having a kebab with all 5 sausages just sounds awesome, though I would prefer them in slider form ;)  I have no problems with a chicken Parmesan sandwich or fish tacos in general. The Chicken Parmesan sandwich looks awesome, as do the fish tacos  (though you gotta double up those tortillas or you’ll have a lap full of taco fillings). However as much of a foodie as I am, when I am at the ball park I want junk food.  Sausages, cheese fries, ballpark nachos, pretzels with cheese, and ice cold Miller Genuine Draft, which is why I am throwing my support behind Chris Stoa and his glorious poutine.
*The ballot calls the poutine “Poutine With Cheese Curds.” Isn’t that a bit redundant?  In order for it to be poutine it must have cheese curds.  Its like saying a cheeseburger with cheese.
