Eat Wisconsin Quick Bite: Falafel sandwich at Holy Land Grocery

A few weeks back I was on a quest to find some Harissa and decided to check to see of Holy Land Grocery located at S. 27th Street & Ramsey.  I found a can of the spicy middle-eastern hot sauce and then noticed they had a counter where you could buy salads, rices, falafel, and shawarma (lamb meat on a spit, also known as gyro meat).  I tried a falafel sandwich on a pita.  They offered a ton of toppings like some pickles, pickled relish, tahini, onions, tomatoes, and hot sauce.  I asked for it all.  I was rewarded with what was probably the best version of a falafel sandwich I have ever tasted.  The warm falafel balls were crunchy on the outside and moist and warm on the inside. It paired nicely with the cold condiments.  The picked condiment really balanced the tahini, falafel, and pita and the hot sauce added some heat to the whole sandwich.  I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves falafel.

Holy land is located at 5326 South 27th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53221-3724
