Ok, the title of this post is meant to be tounge in cheek. The Journal has an Associated Press link on their front page talking about cucumber flavored Pepsi Ice soda. Americans have always been infatuated with the strange stuff that the Japanese eat and drink but I would like to point out that Press Cocktail Soda, LLC, based right here in Milwaukee, already has a cucumber cocktail soda and without even tasting the Pepsi cucumber soda, I would bet that Press tastes a whole lot better. What I don’t understand is how people are so freaked out about cucumber soda. Some restaurants place a slice of cucumber your drinking water providing for a very refreshing drink. Several versions of Pimm’s Cup, a popular drink in England, also features cucumbers as do some versions of Sangria.
I recently purchased a 4 pack of Press Cucumber Cocktail Soda (well before this Japanese Cucumber Pepsi story hit the wire) and I really like it. The flavor of cucumber is pronounced, but not overpowering and the soda by itself is quite refreshing. I made a Press cucumber mojito that I enjoyed Saturday evening, here is the recipe:
5-6 Mint Leaves
3 oz light rum (I used Bacardi)
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 can of Cucumber Press
Ice
1. Muddle the mint and sugar in the bottom of a pint glass. Add a little rum to help dissolve the sugar.
2. Fill the glass with ice
3. Pour the rum into the glass then top off with Press cucumber.
4. Enjoy
Where can I find this drink at? It sounds like what I’ve been looking for. Strangely enough, I heard about the Pepsi cucumber drink and got really excited, only to learn that it’s not coming to the U.S. But Press sounds like something much better. So where would I be able to find this and how much? If it matters, I live in Milwaukee.
Go to discount liquor on Oklahoma or in Downtown Waukesha. I know they carry it. They also have orange, raspberry, and plain flavor.
Thanks. Discount liquor on Oklahoma is close enough, that I’ll stop by after work today. I hope I won’t be disappointed. I’ll also try your mojito recipe as I’m a fan of a good mojito during these hot summer days. I’ll probably use cucumber slices as a garnish like in your pictures too. Thanks again.
Is there any place north of Milwaukee to purchase? I cannot find it in any store in Green Bay. I am willing to purchase online as well.
Thanks.
Ohh..for some reason…I am craving some cucumber soda recently. I agree…cucumber soda isn’t very strange. This veggie has a very light delicate taste…and the essence and scent of cucumber is used in body creams and soaps. It’s not like celery soda which does exist in the States…well..actually that doesn’t sound that gross either. Well, you know what I mean. And I’d like to create a pandan-flavor soda just for fun. Thanks for the recipe!
